The Many Deaths of Laila Starr

Reed performs the role of Lover 1 and joins the chorus of the world premiere of The Many Deaths of Laila Starr by Kamala Sankaram and Minita Gandhi. Commissioned and developed through Minnesota Opera’s New Works Initiative and adapted from the acclaimed graphic novel by Ram V and Filipe Andrade, this work will be the 52nd world premiere in MN Opera history.

When the goddess of Death is cast down to Earth to live as a mortal named Laila Starr, the boundaries between the divine and the human begin to blur in this vivid, transporting story. Infused with elements of Konnakol, Raga, and EDM, this fantasy on purpose and impermanence unfolds with both kinetic energy and striking clarity, as a god made mortal begins to see the world—and life itself—through fresh eyes

The performance takes place at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, located at 345 Washington St, St Paul, MN.

The Rake’s Progress

Based on a series of artworks from the 18th century, Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress follows the decline of Tom Rakewell, whose unknowing encounter with the devil transforms him from an innocent, lazy farm boy to living the high life in London before ending up in the depths of the infamous Bedlam asylum. In the end, only love can save an irredeemable soul. Follow Reed through London and Bedlam (or Brainerd) as part of the soprano chorus with Lake’s Area Music Festival.
